It Was Supposed to Be a Contract Marriage, Your Holiness, You're Overstepping
Description
Viya is troubled. By rights, a caged canary should be thinking about escape every waking moment. And yet the one she keeps is extraordinarily well-behaved. At first she adored having so obedient a girl, and then, very quickly, she grew tired of it. She wants Marilou to rebel, even a little. She has gone so far as to manufacture chances for Marilou to run, and Marilou simply comes back, punctually, every time. The Saintess who once stood so far above everyone now spends her energy guessing what her contract beast is thinking. Because the term of their contract is nearly up. And when it is, will she really leave? Ten years after transmigrating, Marilou never expected that her cheat wouldn't turn up but she'd end up as somebody's contract beast first. Facing a catastrophic opening hand, Marilou wriggled a bit and quickly came to terms with being a useless creature. Put in three years, then go home and lie flat, that is Marilou's guiding principle in life. There's nothing wrong with being a canary: money coming in, people waiting on you, and if the sky falls there's a Saintess watching it. The one thing she doesn't understand is that Her Holiness is being just a bit too careless, always leaving her openings to escape. Could it be on purpose? But why would she leave the vault for the destitute world outside? At last the contract term ended. Viya, with distaste, took off her contract and told her never to come back. Marilou accepted gladly, only, no sooner had she got home than Marilou was contracted again. Viya coughed lightly. "I've just taken the Demon King's lair and become the new Demon King. You're the demon race's dog now."
